From spring seats and end gates to doubletrees, single trees, neck yokes, bows, and box rods, there are a number of transitory pieces on an antique wagon. Transitory elements from these vehicles are those pieces that can easily get lost or detached over the course of time. Because of the tendency of some pieces to be missing from a wagon, it can be tempting to assume, the part wasn’t overly important. Nothing could be further from the truth as all parts have important roles.
Another, often separated, part of any wagon is the tongue. Tongues have a way of wandering off for a number of reasons. Whether they were damaged, forgotten, misplaced, or used on another vehicle, there are quite a few surviving wagons that are missing their original tongue today. This week’s blog is a little longer so I’ve placed it in the ‘Articles’ section of our website. Check out the story there. It’s called “Taming The Tongue” and it contains some intriguing, hard-to-find info.
Have a good week!
