Parades, flags, fireworks, backyard barbeques, time with family and friends, and road trips... each of these have become traditional parts of fourth of July celebrations in America. Even the birthplace of Route 66 has a unique tribute. You might have literally 'heard' of it. Back to that in a bit...

In 1926, Route 66 became the first federal highway system. It stretched over 2,400 miles and ran from Chicago to Santa Monica, California. Similar to what the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon Trails did during the horse-drawn era, this twentieth century path helped open the flow of westward travel. During the first few years, part of the road even followed the same path as the old Santa Fe Trail. As the originator of the Route 66 name, the patriotic folks in Springfield, Missouri have laid down some unique music tracks on a different kind of media.
Apparently, some math, music, and history aficionados in Springfield figured out that different sizes, spacings, and lengths of the grooved warning track along the right-side white line would create different tones. From there, they tuned those otherwise jolting wake-up sounds to a rolling good time. Recently, a friend guided us to the location, allowing my wife and me to experience something new... I know what you're thinking and, no, it doesn't take much to amuse me! Ha! It was a blast. Driving 35 mph over that ribbed record, we played 'America The Beautiful' on a rumble strip with our Jeep tires! How cool, creative, and American is that! (Look it up on the web!)

There are countless places, including innumerable backyards, where faith, family, and freedom will be celebrated on this fantastic 250th Anniversary of America's founding. No matter where you are, we pray you and your family are well and enjoying the celebrated blessings of this great land. No part of the world is perfect, but we have a lot to be thankful for - From sea to shining sea!

Praying you have a safe, fun, and patriotic weekend!
David
