We recently received info from the National Stagecoach & Freight Wagon Association regarding their upcoming annual conference. This year, it will be in Virginia City, Montana and will take place during June 20-23. According to the flyer, the event will include speakers, displays, blacksmith demonstrations, a tour of historic Virginia City, a chuck wagon dinner, vehicle displays at the Ruby Dell Ranch in Alder, Montana and an overview of the period wagons housed at Nevada City as well as the town itself.
It sounds like a great event and, I can tell you from my own travels, if you love the Old West, this part of the country is packed with scenery and history! Fom the gold rush to stage coaching and freighting, robberies and hangings, the area is both beautiful and educational.
Several NOS Peter Schuttler freight wagon wheels are in the wheelwright shop in Nevada City, MT. Note the double tire on this rear freighter wheel.
The old town of Bannack, Montana is relatively close to the events in Virginia City.
For more details on what promises to be a great outing with incredible folks and unforgettable atmosphere, you can reach Jeff McManus, the president of the NSFWA, at 307-272-1838 or you can reach out to the event coordinator, Ashlee Ganoung at ahganoung@gmail.com
There is a lot to explore from Virginia City and Nevada City to Redrock, Bannack, and other historic locales in Montana.
